Clinical Care

A Reputation for Clinical Excellence Based on Outcomes

Clinical Care

At TIRR Memorial Hermann, we're known for accepting the most challenging, complex cases. In so doing, we've earned a reputation for clinical excellence that's among the best in the country. We believe the true measure of clinical excellence goes beyond statistics and awards. It involves pushing boundaries, raising the bar and furthering the patients we treat. It's not uncommon for people with neurologic injuries to adapt and use their muscles for different functions. Physiatrists affiliated with TIRR Memorial Hermann's Orthopedic/Multiple Trauma Program help patients with complex musculoskeletal injuries recover from trauma. For people who suffer traumatic injuries as a result of accidents, they may require surgeries which can lead to functional limitations to perform daily activities. With a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team, patients regain flexibility and strength in the context of function.

Committed to Advancing Research

Clinical Care

With research funding of almost $30 million, we're integrating the input of physicians, nurses and therapists to guide our latest innovations by focusing on clinical needs that our patients, families and clinicians identify. We are proud to be one of only seven institutions in the world that have both a Traumatic Brain Injury model system and Spinal Cord Injury model system. Affiliations with Baylor College of Medicine and McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston have led to productive collaborations with researches from Rice University and the University of Houston as well as national and international entities.

Where are tomorrow's leaders in rehabilitation?

Clinical Care

They’re learning from today’s leaders at the TIRR Memorial Hermann Education Academy. We are committed to serving as a teaching and academic affiliation location for all disciplines that treat patients here.

Physical medicine and rehabilitation residents and fellows are a key point of medical contact for our patients, working under the guidance of attending physicians. Our affiliations with McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston and Baylor College of Medicine underscore our commitment to ensuring our patients always receive the most advanced, evidence-based care available.

At TIRR Memorial Hermann, 75 percent of our therapists have advanced certifications and over 50 percent of our nurses are certified in rehabilitation nursing.

Changing lives through rehabilitation and advocacy.

Returning people to their communities after treatment is the goal of any rehabilitation program. That’s why advocacy is an important element of what we do at TIRR Memorial Hermann. From fighting for federal recognition and support for medical rehabilitation programs and rehabilitation research, to advocating for people with disabilities, to serving as an architect of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the people at TIRR Memorial Hermann continue to raise awareness and break down barriers.

Our Department of Independent Living Research Utilization (ILRU) is a national center providing information, training, research and technical assistance in independent living. At TIRR Memorial Hermann, we’re committed to raising awareness about the inequalities that still exist and doing everything we can to lay the groundwork for independent living for all.
