Mother-Baby Unit
After your baby is born, you will be transferred from Labor and Delivery to your comfortable room on the Mother-Baby Unit. This Unit provides a warm, comfortable and quiet atmosphere that allows the bonding process to continue. Through "couplet care," you and your baby will be cared for by the same nurse in the comfort and convenience of your own room. We practice couplet care unless your baby needs the care of a specialized nurse. Our top-notch nursing staff is neonatal resuscitation provider (NRP) certified and provides personalized care for your baby at your bedside. Couplet care promotes bonding and attachment by offering the education and support your family needs to welcome the new baby into your lives and routines. The father or support person is also encouraged to get involved in the educational process and newborn care. Your nurse will assist you with feeding, bathing and any questions you may have on how to care for your baby. You will also receive instructions on your own personal care. As a result, the baby is happy and you will leave the hospital, with your new family, more confident in your parenting and infant care skills.
Antepartum Unit
The Antepartum Unit is available for inpatient care for women experiencing complications with their pregnancy and who require 24-hour management and monitoring prior to delivery of their baby. The Unit offers a full range of tests performed in pregnancy to monitor your baby’s heart rate and other signs of fetal well-being.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Whether your child is born prematurely or suffers from a medical condition, the experts at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) are ready to provide the very best possible care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The unit is staffed by specially trained physicians and nurses who are specialized in treating premature infants. If your baby is born prematurely, suffers from a medical condition, has a birth defect or needs special monitoring or procedures the experts at Memorial Hermann Southeast are ready to provide the very best possible care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our Level III NICU provides the full range of care for neonates using high-tech therapies and advanced equipment. We encourage hands-on involvement of parents to provide needed human interaction for our smallest patients. The unit is staffed by specially trained nurses and affiliated physicians.
If a higher level of care is required, our Children's Transport Team - composed of specially trained nurses and affiliated neonatal intensive care physicians - stands ready to transport our young patients to Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center or to another appropriate Memorial Hermann facility via ground or Life Flight air ambulance.
Registering for Your Delivery at Southeast
For your convenience, we offer two ways to register.
In Person:
You may register in person at the Admitting Department located in the main lobby of the hospital. You should register by the seventh month of pregnancy. However, you may register as early in your pregnancy as you wish.

You may pre-register for childbirth online by following these steps:
- Complete the online form and click the Submit button (please print a copy for your records).
- A hospital representative will call before the scheduled procedure to review the information submitted. If a hospital representative has not contacted you two weeks prior to your delivery date, please call admitting at (281) 929-4198 to ensure all necessary items have been submitted.
Please discuss with your physician any pre-certification required by your insurance carrier. Hospital insurance coverage is separate from physician coverage. The staff will request payment for any co-payment or deductibles as identified by your insurance carrier. If you have any questions regarding your financial arrangement or insurance coverage, contact the Admitting Department at (281) 929-4198.
Classes and Other Services
Our prepared childbirth, newborn, sibling, infant CPR, and breastfeeding classes as well as tours of our maternity unit can be scheduled by calling (713) 222-CARE. These classes keep women in touch with others who share their concerns and with the health care providers they need.
They also provide women and their families with current information that will prepare them for childbirth and how to care for themselves and their babies. We can help provide important links to other hospital services, such as fitness, nutrition and stress management programs, physician information and mammography. General Visiting Guidelines/Hours
Memorial Hermann Southeast strives to encourage a family-centered environment for our patients and their loved ones. In the interest of safety for both our pregnant and postpartum mothers and their babies, we must limit visitation to only three visitors at any given time. Any visitor under 18 years of age must be a big brother or big sister of the newborn. Also, any adult visitors who are experiencing any flu-like symptoms – including fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills or fatigue – may not visit a patient and will be asked to leave the unit by the nursing staff. We offer “Snuggle & Snooze” because your rest is import to you and your baby. During “Snuggle & Snooze” time from 1 to 3 a.m. and p.m. we will limit visitors on the unit to provide a quiet atmosphere for you and your baby to rest.
Hospital Visitation hours end at 9 p.m.
- No children under 18 are allowed except siblings; children must be accompanied by an adult other than the patient.
- Only one adult may attend a cesarean delivery.
- One person over the age of 18 years may spend the night with the patient.
- Siblings are not allowed to stay overnight.
