Course Description

This two day course is specifically designed for occupational and physical therapists who work with adult stroke and brain injury patients. This course will cover topics related to upper extremity management with emphasis on resolving shoulder impairments and recovering function. Information will be shared by lecture, lab and possibly using video & other visual aids.

Learning Objectives / Outcomes

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  1. Identify principles of management handling guidelines and concepts related to the challenge of maximizing functional outcomes as related to upper extremity function.
  2. Identify basic components of normal movements as related to upper extremity function.
  3. Identify characteristics of upper extremity use and upper extremity components of normal movement.
  4. Differentiate between normal and abnormal upper extremity movement in functional activities.
  5. Identify the missing components of movement that are interfering with the patient’s ability to function at a higher level.
  6. Identify handling techniques to help patients attain the missing upper extremity components of movement that are interfering with functioning at a higher level.
  7. Identify handling techniques to resolve mobility problems and pain.
  8. Integrate concepts related to normal movement, principles of management, general areas of function and handling techniques as related to the upper extremity in ADLs.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be Neuro-IFRAH Trained®.

Lisa SiskLisa Sisk, PT, MS, NCS, Neuro-IFRAH Instructor®

Lisa Sisk, PT, MS, NCS, Neuro-IFRAH Instructor® received her degree in Physical Therapy from Grand Valley State University in 2004. She began her training with Waleed Al-Oboudi in 2006 and received her Neuro-IFRAH Instructor® certification in 2008. Lisa is a board-certified clinical specialist in neurology and has experience in the treatment and management of individuals with a stroke or brain injury across the continuum of care including acute, inpatient rehab, outpatient, and private services. Lisa is currently the Therapy Clinical Coordinator at TIRR Memorial Hermann The Woodlands.

Costs:This covers the 2-day class costs, and covers full materials. Tuition is due upon registration.

Course participants must complete any & all formal assessments, procedures, and criteria required for credit or certification. As per Memorial Hermann policy, participants must attend the entire course in order to receive CEUs and course certificate, no partial credits will be given.

Instructional Level: Intermediate

OT: CE Provided thru NEURO IFRAH Organization. Successful completion of this course will result in up to 1.4 CEU’s and/or 14 contact hours with the AOTA. The assignment of AOTA CEU’s does not imply endorsement of specific course content, products or clinical procedures by the AOTA.

PT: Memorial Hermann Health System is TPTA Approved Provider of continuing education. This activity meets continuing competence requirements for physical therapist and physical therapist assistant licensure renewal in Texas for 14 CCUs.


Complete registration form and reservation fee are due to reserve your place in the course. Space is limited to 18 registrations. All fields required. Employees must use their Memorial Hermann email to receive employee price for the course. In the event of a course cancellation, participants will be notified via email & contact phone number on the registration form below. Registration fee includes: Access to course materials, snacks and lunch. Registration is limited to 18 attendees.


All fees will be refunded except for a $50 administrative charge if written notice of withdrawal is received 14 days prior to course start date to refunds will be granted after this date. If you register and do not attend, or do not fulfill the requirements of the class, your course fee will not be refunded.

Cancellation by the Sponsor/Instructor will result in a full refund of the tuition. Sponsor/Instructor is not responsible for additional expenses incurred by registrants. Sponsor has the right to replace advertised Instructor with another Neuro-IFRAH Instructor® without penalty.

Cancellation of the event by TIRR Memorial Hermann will result in a full refund of monies received. TIRR Memorial Hermann is not responsible for the refund of travel or hotel expenses under any circumstances. TIRR Memorial Hermann reserves the right to cancel or change any programs for due cause. In the event of a cancelation, participants will be notified via email and contact phone number submitted in the registration.
