Sam's Club Sugar Land gave a $20,000 check to Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital on Friday.
The grant will allow the hospital to build a children’s playroom on the first floor, and an upgrade to the children’s play area on the 5th floor. “Anything we can do to help take children’s mind off the fact that they are at the hospital. That benefit is huge,” said Eric Sweet, Manager Sam’s Club Sugar Land.
Deborah White, physician services at Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, has been involved with fund raising throughout the community for years. During that time, White has formed a relationship with the staff at Sam’s Club. “They are dedicated to being aligned with us to provide the best community care for our patients and their customers.”
Sweet, who lives in the community himself, came to tour the hospital as White explained some of the areas that needed the most attention. After Sweet was done with the tour he explained, “It was a no brainer once the opportunity presented itself.”
The hospital announced this past year it would undergo a $93 million expansion and upgrade to benefit the growing population. Children’s services have been one of the fasting growing areas in the hospital, with the number of pediatric patients more than doubling in the ER alone.
“This is a very important part of our growth as we continue to service our community’s pediatric patients. This allows us the opportunity to improve the health of children through prevention, treatment in a setting that is child friendly and stress free to a parent,” exclaimed White who is grateful to the Sam’s Club team.
“I really appreciate Debbie and the work that Memorial Hermann is doing for the Sugar Land community. Anything we can do to benefit the parents and family that go to the hospital, we are happy to do.”
