HUMBLE, TEXAS (June 11, 2015)

The June meeting of the Stroke Support Group at Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital will feature Ann Morrow, Memorial Hermann Neurologic Music Therapist, speaking about “Music Therapy and the Stroke Patient.”

The group will meet Wednesday, June 24, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Attendees can enter through the west entrance of the hospital, located off McKay Blvd., and proceed to Classroom B, where refreshments will be served.

The Stroke Support Group is free and open to all stroke survivors, those who care for stroke survivors and those who would like additional information about surviving a stroke. Participants must register by calling 713.222.CARE (2273).

Additional Stroke Support Group meetings will be held on August 26, October 29 and December 15 in Classroom B and will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and serious long-term disability in the United States, according to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds, someone dies of a stroke every four minutes and 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.

Memorial Hermann Northeast is a certified Primary Stroke Center and is a “Get with the Guidelines-Stroke Gold-Plus” hospital, as designated by the AHA/ASA for meeting stroke quality measures that reduce the time between when a patient arrives at the hospital and when they are treated. Memorial Hermann Northeast also received the Gold-Plus award for reducing the amount of time patients must stay in the hospital as well as reducing the patient readmission rate.
