Mukesh Mehta, MD has been named chief of staff at Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation Hospital-Katy. Since its opening in 2006, the hospital and its affiliated physicians, therapists and staff have cared for patients recovering from injuries or suffering from chronic diseases that have impaired their physical or cognitive functioning.

"I look forward to this new and exciting challenge," said Dr. Mehta. "Working hand-in-hand with the hospital's affiliated physicians and staff, we will further position Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation Hospital-Katy as the leader in rehabilitation services in Katy and beyond."

The hospital provides rehabilitation services for individuals who have suffered a loss of functioning or impairment due to conditions such as stroke, brain injury, orthopedic injury, amputation, arthritis and spinal cord injury. The inpatient program combines the benefits of physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy, along with social services and nursing for a multi-disciplinary approach. The hospital also provides both physical and occupational therapy through the Outpatient Therapy Clinic and houses a Diagnostic Imaging Center and an outpatient Wound Care Center with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.

During his one-year term, which will commence on September 1, Dr. Mehta will be responsible for ensuring the continuation of quality medical care throughout the hospital. He also will serve as chairman of the hospital's Medical Executive Committee and as a member of the Peer Review Team.

A former National Merit Scholar, Dr. Mehta received his degree in 1986 in medicine and surgery from MP Shah Medical College, a college associated with Saurashtra University in Jamngar, India.

He is board certified in internal medicine with special interests in diabetes, geriatrics and preventative medicine. He has worked at St. John Episcopal Hospital, affiliated with State University of New York Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, and with Mount Sinai School of Medicine at North General Hospital in New York. His post-graduate experience also includes working as a research assistant at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

After practicing in internal medicine for seven years in Lafayette, Louisiana, Dr. Mehta moved to Katy in 2000 to be closer to his family. He now practices medicine at Katy Internal Medicine Associates and is affiliated with Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital.

Dr. Mehta enjoys running, bicycling and spending time with his wife and family.
