Modified Constraint Induced Movement Therapy (mCIMT)
The TIRR Memorial Hermann Strength Unlimited Program offers modified constraint induced movement therapy program for individuals with upper extremity weakness. This is an evidence-based program in an enriched environment to enhance the use of the affected upper extremity.
Goals
- Improve upper extremity function
- Facilitate overall performance in daily living skills,work related tasks, school activities, recreational activities and social participation
- Offer an evidence-based, intensive and therapist-guided practice of movement
- Provide a novel activity-based program
- Enhance motivation through social support
Intervention
- Provided in a group setting led by an occupational therapist
- Duration:six weeks or eight weeks, depending on the functional level of the client 1.5 hours per session, four times per week
- Daily forced use of the affected upper extremity will be for 5 days per week, 5 hours per day
- Adaptive task practice and repetitive practice of a specific task using the affected upper extremity in a circuit training format
Cost
- The cost of the Modified Constraint Induced Movement Therapy program is $1,500.00
Schedule
- Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays: 4:00PM to 5:30PM
- Fridays: 3:00PM to 4:30PM

Referrals
- A physician referral/prescription is required to participate in the program
- An occupational therapist will screen the participant to be sure he or she is appropriate for this group
