Dr. Meilani Hasmin C. Mapa, M.D., joins the medical staff as an affiliated physician at TIRR Memorial Hermann after completing her residency at the Baylor College of Medicine/UTHealth Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Alliance in 2007, followed by a fellowship in brain injury medicine and spasticity management in 2008 at the same institution. She was awarded her medical degree at Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown, Ohio, in 2003.
Dr. Mapa is a clinical assistant professor of physical medicine & rehabilitation at UTHealth Medical School, where she also serves as vice-chair for quality of care. She is medical director of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center and also sees outpatients for spasticity, brain injury and stroke at the TIRR Memorial Hermann Outpatient Medical Clinic.
Clinical & Research Interests
Dr. Mapa's clinical and research interests include rehabilitation of stroke and mild to severe brain injury, management of spasticity caused by stroke and brain injury, and general rehabilitation of neurotrauma, spinal cord injury, burn and musculoskeletal injuries.
She is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Association of Academic Physiatrists.
