Dr. Li is one of few physician scientists in the field of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is the Director of Neurorehabilitation Research Laboratory at TIRR Memorial Hermann Research Center. His primary research interest is pathophysiology and management of spasticity. He has invented a technique – breathing-controlled electrical stimulation (BreEStim) as a non-pharmacological intervention for management of spasticity and neuropathic pain. His research has been supported by NIDRR, NIH and Mission Connect grants, including an NIH R01 grant. He is currently a regular member of the Motor Function, Speech and Rehabilitation (MFSR) study section at NIH.
