Carl Josehart -2016As a national leader in rehabilitation, we stay focused on growing our educational programs to provide training opportunities for professionals around the country. In June, we hosted 80 therapists, nurses and case managers at our 2014 Spinal Cord Injury Symposium, “Advancing Wellness and Independence After Spinal Cord Injury.” We were pleased with the overwhelming response we received to the two-and-a-half-day event, and regret having to close registration when we reached maximum capacity much earlier than expected.

The theme of community integration was at the heart of the symposium and remains the goal of all of our educational efforts – from patients and families to our own staff across Houston and at other facilities around the country. In support of education, we are pleased to welcome a new fulltime therapy education resource specialist, Patricia E. Tully, OTR, ATP, who will keep therapists informed of innovations in evidence-based practice. As part of her responsibilities, she’ll also develop future community education opportunities for professionals.

When we educate the mind at TIRR Memorial Hermann, we also educate the heart. Many of our patients have returned to the community with a renewed sense of personal value and commitment. “Tentative efforts lead to tentative outcomes,” wrote Roman teacher and philosopher Epictetus. We agree with that statement, which is why we are 100% committed to helping people with disabilities participate fully in all aspects of life.
