Wes Brown: Back on the Road Again

Wes Brown was hauling a load of saltwater from an oilfield in East Texas to a nearby disposal site when the tires on the rear axel of his 18-wheeler hit a pothole and bounced onto the shoulder of the road. Mike McCormick: A Stroke of Luck

In June 2013, Mike McCormick was finishing up a long week of work when a friend called and asked him for help moving some heavy items from her old house to her new home. “We worked for several hours and somewhere around midnight, as soon as we were done, I had a stroke,” McCormick says. “She immediately recognized my symptoms and called 911. Heather Taylor, Ph.D., director of the Spinal Cord Injury and Disability Research Center at TIRR Memorial Hermann, and Glendaliz Bosques, M.D., pediatric rehabilitation consultant at the hospital, are co-principal investigators of a new study to evaluate spinal cord injury (SCI) outcomes instruments in pediatric patients. The multicenter study is funded by a grant from the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation.
